Residents of an upscale neighborhood in the Lone Star State are outraged after a series of home purchases led to the residences being used as AirBnBs— and the subsequent drama and degeneracy that often accompanies hotel-style lodging arrangements.
Locals who reside in the $500,000 townhomes of the Houston suburb are sick of sex parties, drug deals, and other debauchery taking place at several residences— including people having sex in clear view of families from the balcony of one of the aforementioned domiciles.
The incident —as well as one where a woman was walking around wearing only a thong— have been recorded and documented.
“It was terrible. This was on a Monday morning. We could have had kids. There is an elementary school just 2 minutes away,” a resident complained.
The rental property, which can be reserved for a little as $486 a night and is furnished with silky swank from the sheets to the furniture, explicitly states that parties are not allowed, but it appears to be a rule in name only.
However, the location, which the Daily Mail has dubbed a “party palace,” regularly reeks of marijuana and is a frequent address for reported noise complaints.
“If I can describe in one word what happened to the neighborhood, it’s filth. They bring filth to this established family neighborhood,” one resident said.
Eighty-seven attempts by locals to get the police involved and shut the establishment down have ended in disappointment.
The story of the AirBnB nightmare drew comments from around the world about the many such cases where the lucrative business has disrupted daily life for locals.
“Several families I know has ongoing problems with noisy parties at all hours at Airbnbs next to them. Complaints to police and owners are useless,” one South African wrote.
“This has always been such a nice part of town and it’s gone straight downhill. There seem to be little repercussions in our city and longer,” a Texan chimed in. “Glad to be moving away.”
