A former model with experience fighting ISIS in Iraq was killed while helping Ukraine fight Russia.
39-year-old Thalita do Valle joined the fight as a sniper but was killed after three weeks in-country when Russian missiles struck Kharkiv on June, 30.
The Brazilian was killed alongside a veteran of the Brazilian armed forces, Douglas Burigo while he was attempting to evacuate her from a bunker.
Valle documented her time in Ukraine as well as her time training as a sniper with the Peshmergas in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
While she only had 402 subscribers, her latest videos have gained thousands of views.
According to the NY Post, her brother, Theo Rodrigo Viera, says she’s a hero who dedicated her life to helping others.
“Thalita has always been involved in humanitarian missions with the foreign legion of some country or here in Brazil,” Viera said. “She was always moved by the feeling of saving animals and humans. My sister was always peaceful, a genuine progressive. Guns are part of a context, war, but she saved lives, she saved animals.”
He said she died of asphyxiation after the missile strike trapped her in the bunker.
During her time in Ukraine, she worked as a sniper providing cover for Ukrainian troops as Russian forces advanced.
She told her brother of surviving an earlier bombing in Kyiv but said she could not say much as Russian forces were monitoring cellphones with drones.
