A black panther is on the loose in Italy, and it is believed that a Mafia boss is to blame.
Outside the rural town of Acquaviva delle Fonti, the panther has reportedly been stalking and prowling around the countryside.
Multiple social media accounts have shared video of a panther sighting, and the Mayor of Acquaviva delle Fonti, Davide Carlucci, has since issued orders to stay indoors when possible while in the more rural areas.
“I have signed an ordinance prohibiting cycling and pedestrian transit and the carrying out of any sporting or agricultural activity by citizens on all country roads and roads outside the town of Acquaviva,” he said. “In order to avoid frightening the feline and cause aggressive behavior, owners of domestic and farm animals must keep them safe … to protect them from possible attacks.”
According to MSN, Carlucci stated that the big cat likely belonged to someone associated with the mob.
It’s being said that the animal could have escaped from the villa of a mob boss’s son,” the mayor said. “A while ago someone in the region had a tiger. It’s a very serious issue- they bring in these animals and then later let them escape.”
Police and forest rangers are reportedly hunting the panther.
