Outdoor equipment brand North Face’s recent partnership with Camp Brave Trails, an overnight summer camp aimed at LGBTQ+ youth, has reportedly sparked outrage among concerned citizens and parents.
The company’s involvement in promoting what critics dub a “drag camp” has raised eyebrows and fueled debates about the appropriateness of exposing young children to adult-themed activities.
With franchises in Southern California and New York, Camp Brave Trails has come under scrutiny for encouraging children as young as 12 to participate in drag performances, a practice that many view as highly controversial and inappropriate for impressionable youth.
Critics argue that such activities blur the lines between childhood innocence and adult themes, potentially exposing children to concepts beyond their years.
Founded by Kayla and Jessica Weissbuch, Camp Brave Trails bills itself as a haven for LGBTQ+ youth, offering gender-neutral accommodations and facilities to create an inclusive environment.
However, critics contend that the camp’s promotion of gender fluidity and self-expression may confuse and even harm young campers who are still navigating their identities and societal norms.
Camp Brave Trails is a subsidiary of Harbor Camps, which was founded by billionaire and retired Illinois Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer Pritzker, who just so happens to be the cousin of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker [D].
Pritzker, who transitioned long after enlisting in the US Army on February 8, 1974, and serving until 1977.
After completing enlistment, Pritzker entered the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program at Loyola University of Chicago and was sworn in as an officer in 1979.
Pritzker served in various Infantry roles over 16 years but never saw combat while in th Reserves and the Illinois National Guard before retiring in 2001.
After retiring, Pritzker was made an honorary Illinois colonel.
The National Guard Educational Foundation still refers to Jennifer as James Nicholas Pritzker, the name he was born and enlisted with.
Pritzker has inherited and accumulated wealth that is estimated at $1.7 billion. A large portion of the Pritzker family’s wealth came from the sale of significant stakes in the Marmon Group and Transunion.
According to the Daily Wire, North Face’s decision to sponsor Camp Brave Trails has drawn sharp criticism from many in the public, who argue that corporations should refrain from endorsing initiatives that push a progressive agenda at the expense of traditional values.
Others view North Face’s involvement as a betrayal of its customer base and a misguided attempt to appease a vocal minority at the expense of mainstream values.
The controversy surrounding North Face’s sponsorship of Camp Brave Trails underscores broader concerns about the politicization of corporate activism and the role of businesses in shaping societal norms.
As debates rage on about the appropriate age for children to be exposed to adult themes and the boundaries of gender expression, North Face finds itself caught in the crossfire of a culture war that shows no signs of abating.
