A Louisana high school senior with a 4.2 GPA just lost her scholarship after a video of her “twerking” at homecoming went viral.
According to the NY Post, Kaylee Timonet was reprimanded by the public school’s principal and removed as student government association president because of the video.
Timonet performed the dance at a homecoming after-party at a private event at a local country club.
The DJ caught the 17-year-old twerking in front of her friends and posted the video online, which has since been taken down.
The DJ and Timonet’s mother say the act was harmless and the principal was wrong for pulling the teen’s scholarship application and bringing religion into the conversation. Timonet told the Post, “They basically told me I should be ashamed of myself and that they were concerned about my afterlife if I wasn’t following basically God’s ideals, which made me cry even more.”
Students have rallied around Timonet by selling t-shirts that say, “let the girl dance.”
