Giants legend Tiki Barber knows a thing or two about quarterbacks. In his 10-year career with Big Blue, he played with five of them, from Danny Kanell to Eli Manning.
Who better in New York sports radio than Barber to evaluate the team’s current quarterback Daniel Jones?

On WFAN Tuesday, Barber, who will be a color analyst for NFL games on CBS this season, provided his analysis of the Giants QB.
“He’s always been a great athlete, has always had a big arm, he’s tall, he can read,” Barber said. “If he can translate those five, six, seven-yard throws into deep balls accurately that change field positions … then Daniel Jones can be a top-five quarterback.”
This, of course, drew laughter from his new co-host Evan Roberts, who was abandoned by Craig Carton in June. Roberts then began to list all of the quarterbacks ahead of Jones. Players like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen made the list, as they should.
Barber dug in deeper, saying that Jones could pass all of them except one.
“If Joe Burrow doesn’t get his Ja’Marr Chase signed to a long-term deal, he may have some trouble there,” Barber said. “Josh Allen had a lot of turnovers last year. I love who Josh Allen is, but if he doesn’t start protecting himself, he will be an ex-elite quarterback. What has Justin Herbert done postseason?
“Daniel Jones was excellent. I’m not saying he’s a top-five quarterback. I’m saying he has the ability to be. He’s already a top 10.”
Jones threw for 3,205 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions last year and he ran for seven more TDs on 708 yards. He completed 67.2 percent of his passes and had a 92.5 passer rating, both career highs. In his four seasons, he has a 21-31-1 overall record with 60 touchdown passes and 34 interceptions on 11,603 yards. He’s rushed for 12 scores.

After securing Saquon Barkley, adding a group of receivers and tight end Darren Waller, the Giants better hope Jones can catapult himself into the upper echelon of NFL quarterbacks. Their season may depend on it.
