The doctor girlfriend of a Missouri fire captain died from a lethal cocktail of drugs while staying at his home, a mere three years after his previous love was found dead from a gunshot wound.
Dr. Sarah Sweeney was found dead at Fire Captain Robert Daus’ home in suburban St. Louis on January 13.
The 39-year-old doctor was found with a pretty vast mix of drugs in her system, including Oxycodone, Gabapentin, and Diphenhydramine.
This isn’t the first time a love interest of Daus turned up dead in his home— in 2020, then-fiancé Grace Holland was found deceased at the residence with a gunshot wound to the head.
Daus, who is fifty years of age, denies any wrongdoing, but law enforcement is still investigating Holland’s death.
As for Dr. Sweeney, a toxicology report revealed no foul play as of yet.
“Dr. Sweeney was found with no obvious signs of trauma discovered on her body, and our investigation, at this point, supports that she was home alone leading up to her death,” the report read.
However, Sweeney reportedly lived with Daus despite living in fear of him, as federal court filings reveal that she previously testified that she believed Daus killed Holland.
Additionally, Sweeney claimed she felt uncomfortable living with the man she was still scheduled to marry.
“But guess what Danielle? I’ve been homeless, I have had to move in with my boyfriend the ‘murderer’ which has been scary at times, I’ve lost every penny and closed out my savings account, I have had issues getting a job bc of my past affiliation with him, I have suffered…I have been through the ringer,” an email to a friend read.
As for why Dr. Sweeney had so many pain pills, her medical history may paint some clues.
“Sarah was diagnosed with Perthes Disease when she was six years old, which caused her to experience much physical pain throughout her life,” her obituary read.
The death of Ms. Holland, which is still under investigation, revealed that she was shot in the left temple, despite being right-hand dominant.
According to the Daily Mail, Daus has never been charged in connection with Holland’s death, which was ruled a suicide by the medical examiner.
