Zac Efron’s hospitalization in Ibiza last weekend happened after the actor became briefly disoriented when his chest hit the bottom of a pool and he ingested “lots of water.”
An insider confirmed the details to People, adding that the “High School Musical” alum was with friends at a villa when he dove into the pool and suffered the “minor swimming incident.”
He reportedly showed signs of distress and was “dazed momentarily” before the property’s security pulled him from the pool, said the source.
Doctors X-rayed the actor to check whether his lungs still held any water before he was medically cleared in a matter of hours, according to the insider.
A representative for the “Iron Claw” star told TMZ last Saturday that the actor had been hospitalized out of an abundance of caution but was fine.
Efron addressed the incident the following day in a since-expired Instagram Story, confirming all was well.
“Happy and healthy,” Efron wrote beside a snap of himself lifting weights atop an exercise ball.
Back in 2019, Efron’s health also made headlines when he spent 21 days “off the grid” filming the reality series “Killing Zac Efron,” during which he reportedly contracted the deadly bacterial infection typhoid.
“I tend to thrive under extreme circumstances and seek out opportunities that challenge me on every level,” he said that year.
