TikTok brings out the worst of western culture, and the number of injuries sustained as TikTokkers attempted to carry out the dances moves to a Cardi B song is further proof of that.
Hoping to pull off the choreography to the tune of the rather explicit song “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, many individuals landed themselves in the hospital for a chance at fifteen minutes of fame on an app controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.
The dance, invented by Guam’s Brian Esperon, requires a lot of flexibility, sacrifice and athleticism.
“You’re not going to be able to wear a skirt for at least a week because your legs will be covered in bruises,” one poster said on a heavily-watched video.
According to the New York Post, one woman blew her knee out and ended up in the hospital.
“When the dance you made on tiktok sends someone to the hospital,” Esperon commented.
Others recounted their own injuries.
“I had to wear a knee brace when I did it but I still almost dislocated it again,” user emilylharris replied on the video of the woman damaging her knee. “I can feel this just looking at it.”
The dance is one of the many so-called “challenges” on TikTok that inspire people to do bizarre and often risky things, all to the exact same tune and timing.
