South Korea has one of the largest wage and employment disparities between genders and apparently, the women are tired of it.
An online feminist movement has been pushing for equal rights in the country for the last six years, they are now using an emoji to mock men and their penis size. The pinching fingers emoji is being used in advertisements, chat forums, and everywhere they can to bring attention to the work gap, sexual assault cases, and other gender rights issues the country is facing.
The country has seen thousands of women gather to hold protests over the last few years and prominent women in media roles are now taking the hand gesture to the main stream.
There’s a movement to cancel TV personality JaeJae after she was seen eating a piece of chocolate at a red carpet event by using a hand gesture similar to the emoji.
Park Na-rae, a comedian, is accused of sexual harassment by men after she made a suggestive joke involving a male doll.
According to the LA Times, men are trying to defeat the feminist movement by calling for a reverse #metoo movement. Some men are claiming sexual harassment from women on anything they believe they can prove in court where judges are overwhelmingly men.
Some men are decrying the pro-women movement as “mental illness.”
One poll showed that 56% of men in their 20s would break up with their girlfriend if she identified herself as a feminist.
