Skydiving ‘Santa Claus’ crash lands on Florida beach

GULFPORT – A skydiver dressed as Santa Claus, with an ‘elf on a shelf’ with him on a jump, crashed into a tree on Saturday and broke his leg.

George Krokus, or “Santa” and Kristoff (the elf on the dive) are recovering in a Tampa Bay-area hospital room and are reported to be in good spirits.

The crash landing took place at the Tampa Bay Beach Bums Operation Santa Charity Volleyball Tournament on Gulfport Beach.

A 9-year-old named Madison Spiers watched the whole thing unfold and was surprised to find out her elf on the shelf, Kristoff, who visits her house during the holidays, accompanied Krokus on the jump, according to Spectrum Bay News 9.

“I felt bad, because I never really seen anyone skydive and that was the first time I saw someone skydive and it didn’t turn out that well, so I felt really bad,” Madison said.

But then after the crash, Madison told outlets she found a note from ‘Kristoff.’

“As we were about to land this big tree jumped right out in front of us!” the note reads. “Don’t worry though…now G (Krokus) and I are resting in this hotel that they keep calling a
‘hospital’! G has reservations for a few more days, going to hang out with him so he doesn’t feel lonely!!”

The news that Krokus would be okay was a relief to Madison’s step dad, Dominic Nelson, who helped organized the event.

Krokus, who is an avid skydiver, is undergoing surgeries for his broken leg at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and is expected to make a full recovery.

Nelson has set up a fundraiser to help Krokus with his medical bills.
