A Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and her fellow plus-sized friend say they were denied entry at a notable Los Angeles club because the bouncer told them they were, “too curvy.”
According to the Daily Mail, Ella Halikas and Alexa Jay were walking into the popular Highlight Room for some fun and drinks when the bouncer stopped them. Halikas was featured in 2021’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and is moving up in the world of fashion.
In a TikTok video, Halikas said this wasn’t about her or her friend, but about how she and others could be denied simple pleasures in life because they were a “size 14.”
The two were going to the club to celebrate another friend’s birthday. As the group was being let in, the bouncer stopped the two of them. They explained they were with the group. The bouncer looked them up and down and said, “not tonight.”
‘It was like we were literally getting looked through,’ she recalled. ‘People were watching and seeing what was going on, and no one was helping. These people were looking at us like we were scum of the earth. Nobody cared.”
The video has been viewed more than 1.3 million times and has more than 800 comments.
The club has stated the doorman who denied the women entrance was part of a third-party promotion company and has been fired from working at the club again.
