Next up and not too far from Hallstatt is the village of Hohenschwangau in Germany. However not many people come to see the village. They come for the castles.

Hohenschwangau is home to one of the most recognizable castles in the world, Neuschwanstein Castle.

Neuschwanstein Castle was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and construction began in 1869. However Ludwig never saw the completion as he mysteriously died in 1886. The castle was also the inspiration behind Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty castle.
