COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio State University graduate student was killed when her head was pinned after her car struck an exit kiosk in an accident at a downtown parking garage.
Police tell WBNS Channel 10 that Victoria Strauss, 23, a Florida native, was leaving the parking garage at about 11:30 p.m. when she apparently dropped a credit card on the ground while trying to pay the fee. She opened the door to the car and leaned out to pick it up.
She accidentally caused the car to accelerate as she was leaning out, police tell WCMH Channel 4. The car collided with the payment machine, which caused her head to be pinned between the door frame and the kiosk, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Strauss was found at 5:40 a.m. Tuesday by a security guard, reports say. She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS workers.
WBNS reports police are continuing to investigate the accident.
