A long-time Mississippi morning news anchor has been fired from her job after she said a racially sensitive statement.
According to the Mississippi Clarion Ledger, Barbie Bassett has been removed from all morning newscast and from WLBT’s website. All requests from comments to her former co-workers were directed to management.
WLBT’s General Manager only released a brief statement saying, “As I am sure you can understand, WLBT is unable to comment on personnel matters.”
This is the second time Bassett has gotten in trouble for saying something on-air in less than a year. In October 2022 she was removed from the show briefly after saying something insensitive. At that time, she issued an apology. So far she has remained silent.
In this case, Bassett was commenting on a news story about Snoop Dogg’s recent product launch, his fourth wine line. Bassett then commented, “fo shizzle my n*****.”
