Police in New Zealand are cracking down on smugglers trying to get around strict lockdowns- including two guys who made a fried chicken run.
The two men, attempting to reach a city where takeout was banned due to COVID restrictions, had around $100,000 in cash and Kentucky Fried Chicken product when they were stopped by police.
Prior to capture, the smugglers attempted to flee from police near the Auckland border.
“Officers noticed a suspicious looking vehicle travelling on a gravel road, and upon seeing the police car, the vehicle did a U-turn and sped off trying to evade police,” the Auckland Police stated. “The vehicle was searched and police located the cash, alongside empty ounce bags and a large amount of takeaways.”
According to The Guardian, at least three buckets of chicken, up to 10 tubs of coleslaw, and a large quantity of fries were seized.
The lockdowns in NZ and Australia have been particularly harsh, prompting riots and numerous cases of civil disobedience.
