It took one person obsessing over her and her golf game on social media at a 2015 amateur tournament for her to be found, but since then Paige Spiranac has embarrassed her title as the world’s “most popular golfer” and now she’s adding a second title, Maxim’s “Sexiest Woman Alive.”
According to Maxim, Spiranac has more social media followers than any professional golfer, male or female. She hit the LPGA and the tour forced a new dress policy because they were afraid her plunging neckline and short skirts would turn away advertisers.
She was never able to establish herself on the pro circuit, so she turned to social media and was one of the first influencers in the space.
“People say you’re promoting women to show off their assets or to wear less to get more engagement online. My message is wear what you want to wear,” she says.
Paige grew up being a gymnast, but a blown knee cap at age 12 forced her to pursue other sports. A trip to the driving range with her dad started her nearly 20-year love affair with golf.
She quickly moved up the rankings as a high school player and earned a scholarship to the University of Arizona. She transferred to San Diego State and won a conference title her senior year as captain.
Though she’s not a pro player, Spiranic has multiple endorsement deals with golf brands and hosts her own podcast.
The 33-year-old announced this year that she is now divorced.
