A 41-year-old California man was arrested on suspicion of killing his parents and their pet after fleeing the scene of their gruesome murder on Tuesday.
Joseph Gerdvil is accused of beheading 77-year-old Ronald Walter Gerdvil and 79-year-old Antoinette Gerdvil and their dog at their mobile home in the San Juan Mobile Estates community, in San Juan Capistrano.
Investigators of the murder described “a horrific scene which included the decapitated and mutilated bodies” of a man and woman “as well as a decapitated dog belonging to the married couple.”
While the police investigation is in its infancy and details are sparse, a review of Joseph Brandon Gerdvil’s online activity along with their online activity reveals more about his beliefs and mental state.
His online posts show he was a proponent of the flat earth theory, outspoken against NASA, and frequently posted about Christianity and Satan.
A post to his Facebook account, in March, contains an image with the caption, “The elders are all deserving of death for trying to hold judicial matters while standing in the temple acting like the anointed ones.”
His music posted to SoundCloud also appears to have been about these topics, and at least one features a demonic-sounding voice -presumably his.
Police say Gerdvil stole a golf cart and chased a maintenance worker after fleeing the scene of the homicides in the mobile-home community.
A community services officer spotted Gerdvil covered in blood, which led to deputies chasing him.
When a deputy spotted Gerdvil leaving a bike trail near Calle Arroyo, he shot him multiple times.
He was treated on scene until the Orange County Fire Authority arrived and took him to a hospital, where he was said to be in critical but stable condition.
California law requires video of police-involved shootings to be released within 45 days in most cases.
Video from the incident will be released “in accordance with the law and in consultation with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office,” the department said.
