A brazen burglar who crept into an Upper East Side apartment while the tenant was sleeping was stabbed in the thigh during a fight with her victim, police said Thursday.
Police arrested Shanice Aviles for burglarizing the apartment on E. 70th St. and First Ave. — and for targeting a unit in the same building a week earlier.
She entered the two apartments in the early morning hours, while the tenants were asleep, cops said.
She was rifling through one of the apartments at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday when the 68-year-old tenant woke up with a start and found his wallet and keys missing from his nightstand, police said.
When he began searching his apartment, he found Aviles hiding in the kitchen, according to cops. The two fought and Aviles was stabbed in the leg.
Responding officers grabbed Aviles as she escaped the building, police said. She was charged with burglary and criminal possession of stolen property.

Police said she is also responsible for a burglary in the same building on Oct. 3. In that case, an 81-year-old woman woke up in her studio apartment around 4 a.m. when she heard someone open her front door.
When she investigated, the senior realized that a set of keys, $200 in cash and a black backpack had been taken, cops said.
No injuries were reported in either case.
Aviles was released without bail during her arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court on Wednesday. The charges were not bail eligible, according to court documents.
