The Green Bay Police Department were responding to a call when K9 officer Pyro was stabbed in the neck multiple times by a suspect.
The suspect, Sai Vang was threatening to kill his father as well as any officer who responded to the scene.
Pyro was sent in to help aid in the arrest after the Sai refused to cooperate with officers.
After biting Sai, Pyro was stabbed multiple times in the throat.
Chief Andrew Smith told reporters, “Unfortunately, unbeknownst to the officers, this individual was armed with a knife.”
Pyro was rushed to Fox Valley Animal Referral Center in Appleton where he had two surgeries and is in critical condition.
“We have very high hopes that he’s going to survive this incident,” Chief Andrew Smith said.
Sai Vang will likely face charges for recklessly endangering the safety and obscuring an officer.
Pyro has received lots of love and support through Facebook and a fundraiser has been set up to cover his medical costs.
