Kanda Sayaka, an accomplished singer and actress from Japan who appeared in dozens of film, TV and theater roles, has died at age 35.
She was found unconscious Saturday after an apparent six-story fall from a hotel room in Sapporo, and later declared dead at a local hospital, Variety reported.
Her agency didn’t disclose a cause of death.
“We are very sorry to give such a report to all the fans who supported us and all the people who took care of us,” Robe Co. CEO Kamaichi Mitsuhisa said.
“We are still unable to accept her passing and are trying to cope with it. We are currently investigating the detailed situation, but we kindly ask the media to refrain from interviewing relatives or posting articles by speculation.”
Authorities haven’t ruled out foul play or suicide, according to Variety.
Kanda, who was born in Tokyo, had a regular role on the Japanese series “Real Girl” from 2018 to 2019 and on “Idoly Pride” this year.
She also notably portrayed Anna in the Japanese dub of “Frozen” — a role performed by Kristen Bell in the English version of the animated films.
Kanda was the daughter of Japanese pop star Seiko Matsuda and actor Masaki Kanda.
