There is an old adage that claims “money can’t buy happiness”- as it turns out, it can’t alleviate your parents’ disappointment, either.
One South Florida girl learned this after dropping out of school to show a little skin on Instagram, netting a million dollars by age 25.
The Instagram “model” in question is Alexa Collins, who now gets to travel the world and try on the latest fashions.
Initially, Collins was supposed to be focusing on college, but since starting her Instagram account in 2014, she was hyper-focused on generating revenue as a so-called “influencer.”
“You need about 50,000 followers to start making money, that’s when you become a micro-influencer,” she told The Sun.
Her parents were not thrilled with the idea, though Collins seemingly dismissed them as being “older” and out of touch with modern commerce.
“They were set on me going to school, but I told them ‘guys you have to listen to me, understand this is the new age and what I’m going to do,'” she said. “I was super confident going into it and it turned out great.”
With over a million followers and a million in profit, Collins now enjoys a four-bedroom house in Miami that she shares with her boyfriend, Tom.
Her job, it seems, does cause relationship friction at times, but she remains committed.
“I get quite a lot of male attention, I don’t know if my boyfriend likes that too much,” she said. “I get a lot of guys asking me out, it’s always interesting getting messages from celebrities, but I don’t tell anyone because it’s probably not good for them. I’ve had American football players, actors and musicians ask me out. But I’m loved up so I don’t reply.”
