A Northern California Instagram Influencer is now facing charges for providing false information to police after she claimed in a viral video that a Latino couple attempted to kidnap her children while at Michael’s craft store.
According to the Argus Courier, Katie Sorensen faces two misdemeanor charges for the December 2020 incident which she then documented on Instagram in two videos. In the video, Sorensen documents how she had to avoid and hid with her two kids as she believed a Latino family was following them.
She posted the videos online documenting the incident.
But police soon came in to investigate and found the accusations false. Police eventually cleared the couple, Sadie and Eddie Martinez, from any wrongdoing.
The backlash against the video came only after police cleared the Martinez family. People then took to social media to accuse Sorensen of racial profiling.
Some people wanted Sorensen to be charged with a federal hate crime, and that may still happen.
Sorensen has remained silent about the videos since January.
