A track athlete for a Florida high school was in first place as they were coming to a straightaway, he ended up last after a competing runner caught him and cold-cocked him with a fist to the face. Now, that athlete is considering filing a lawsuit against his attacker.
According to Bleacher Report, the track meet was held in Osceola County, Florida, and is an annual event that features several high schools.
During last Saturday’s event, one runner was punched by another and laid on the ground for several moments before being attended to. The incident went viral a few days later.
At the time, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said the victim in the case choose not to press charges. An attorney representing the victim says that is not true and that they are considering all legal action.
The Florida High School Athletic Association is reviewing the incident, though no discipline has been pressed against the puncher.
The attorney blamed the organizers for failing to recognize the tension between the two athletes and that his client suffered a concussion.
The attacker and victim have not been identified by name.
In the video, you can hear an audible gasp and several profanities as the incident unfolded and confusion set in.
