He’s no stranger to the court of public opinion, or court in general.
On Tuesday, NFL Hall of Famer OJ Simpson took to Twitter to weigh in on the Will Smith-Chris Rock drama stemming from Sunday’s Academy Awards. Smith famously slapped the comedian after the latter insulted his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
The 74-year-old former football star, who once stood trial for the murder of his own wife and has been arrested on numerous other occasions, condemned Smith’s behavior and compared the situation to that of his own in a bizarre video he posted to Twitter.

Simpson, innocently enough (uhh), started off discussing the NFL’s new overtime rules — but that quickly shifted to Oscars talk.
“It was unfortunate. I think Will was wrong,” said Simpson. “Look, I understood the feeling. In my life, I’ve been through a lot of crap and I was raising two young kids and every comedian in the country had an OJ routine.
“Don’t think I wouldn’t want to slap a couple of those guys,” continued Simpson. “But you got to accept it’s humor and I didn’t even think that was all that egregious. I thought that was a semi-unfunny joke.”
In 2007, Simpson was found guilty of a dozen weapons, robbery, and kidnapping charges after he barged into a Las Vegas hotel room and stole various items, which he claimed had originally been stolen from him.
He compared that incident to Smith’s on Sunday.
“I know this, after what happened to me in Las Vegas, if I would’ve done that in front of a billion people around the world, they would’ve given me life without,” finished Simpson before signing off.
