Former Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys lineman Uche Nwaneri has died.
He was 38.
According to reports, the cause of death was “an apparent heart attack.”
The Lafayette Journal & Courier reported that Nwaneri drove from Georgia to West Lafayette, Indiana to see his wife when he collapsed. His wife reportedly found him unresponsive in a bedroom around 1 a.m. Friday and called 911.
According to the Journal & Courier an autopsy was performed Monday and found no signs of foul play, and that “preliminary results indicate a possible heart attack, pending toxicology results.”
The 6-foot-3, 310-pound guard played collegiately at Purdue. He was a fifth-round pick of the Jaguars in the 2007 draft, and he played with the team through the 2013 season. He was with the Cowboys as a practice squad member in 2014.
Nwaneri played in 104 games, starting 92 of them.
“Uche was a great person,” his agent, Jordan Woy, told CowboysSI.com. “He was a very interesting person and had deep, valued, and informative thoughts on sports, politics and life.”
