A Former California educator has pleaded no contest to one count of lewd act with a 15-year-old, a crime that happened in 2008.
53-year-old Mary Jahn pleaded guilty as part of a deal on Friday, moments before opening statements at her trial.
Scheduled to be sentenced on November 30, Jahn faces three years of prison and a lifetime as a registered sex offender, in exchange for eight other charges being dismissed, which include four counts of sexual penetration by foreign object, two other counts of lewd acts on a child and two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18.
According to the Press-Telegram, the openly-gay teacher began the sordid relationship in 2008, while she was serving as the student’s English teacher. The sexual relationship included bondage, flogging and hot wax, as well as claims that Jahn carved her initials into the student’s hip.
The victim, now in her mid-twenties, came forward and reported the abuse to officials in 2017. Prosecutors filed charges against Jahn in September 2017. The teacher was subsequently put on leave after the discovery.
