There was one big winner in Arizona even before the clock ran out on the Fiesta Bowl between TCU and Michigan.
While participating in an on-field broadcast for ESPN, Robert Griffin III received a phone call that his wife, Grete, had gone into labor. The former Heisman winner from Baylor promptly left the broadcast in the middle of the third quarter to see the birth of the couple’s third child together.
In four seasons with the Bears, Griffin was one of the premier dual-threat quarterbacks in college football, throwing for 10,366 yards and rushing for 2,254 in his four seasons from 2008-2011. He won the Heisman Trophy during his senior season.
Washington selected Griffin with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. In his first two seasons, Griffin threw a combined 6,403 yards and rushed for 1,304 in his first two seasons and was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012. He also played for the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.
