Maybe he thought baby Jesus could save him… a UK drunk driver finds an unusual hiding spot to evade police. The driver crashed into a metal barrier, then tried to get away from police by hiding in a nearby nativity scene.

The story in Yorkshire, England sparked a field day for clever, sarcastic Twitter users. The suspect should have been charged with “mangerous driving” — one wrote — after the local police dept. tweeted out a photo of the accident, along with a brief description of what happened. According to the Telegraph, he tried to conceal himself “among the hay bales of a nearby shed,” where a nativity scene had been set up. Christmas-themed puns started pouring in as soon as the story broke. Even Sgt. Paul Cording with the Roads Policing Group joined in on the wordplay, referencing the three wise men’s gifts in his tweet: “‘Gold’ star to my @NYorksRPG colleagues as one ‘myrrh’ drink driver with no (frankin)’cense’ is taken off the road.” The driver was eventually located and arrested. The 55-year-old man has been charged with suspicion of drunk-driving.
