Cleveland, Ohio — A police chase involving an officer and a motorist suspected of drunken driving in the wrong lane of Interstate 77 early Sunday ended in a three-car crash, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Copley police officer Jason Chisar was chasing a 55-year-old woman driving a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu as she headed north in the southbound lanes, troopers said. The police officer’s cruiser struck the Malibu shortly before 12:30 a.m. The Malibu then ran into a Nissan Altima stopped on the side of the highway.
It then hit an embankment and stopped, according to a news release.
The Malibu’s driver, who lives in Akron, was injured and taken to Akron General Hospital for treatment. The Nissan’s driver had injuries treated on scene, while the police officer was not injured, officials said.
Troopers said alcohol was likely a factor and that they are investigating.
