An incident in Mississippi involving a city councilwoman and some gunplay in the parking lot is perchance the most “Mississippi” story to come out of 2020- and it just so happened to be captured on video.
Summit City Councilwoman Pauline Monley was charged with domestic violence, simple assault and discharging a firearm within city limits after the incident at a Walmart in McComb, Mississippi.
According to local law enforcement, Monley had opened fire on one of the busiest days of the year, and video shows her pursing her target while firing with one hand.
“At the end of the day, no matter what happened or what transpired prior to the incident, there was no need for you to fire a weapon at the parking lot of Walmart on one of the busiest days of the year,” McComb Police Chief Garland Ward stated.
The video was released on social media over the weekend, and shows Monley shouting, “You’re going to jail,” while discharging her subcompact handgun.
After firing into the parking lot, Monley approached another woman and began striking her.
According to the Miami Herald, Monley turned herself in to police.
