A Democratic nomination process turned heated and resulted in fists being thrown as two competing party candidates vied for Minnesota’s Democratic City Council candidate position.
According to ABC News, two people were injured when supporters of Nasri Warsame began yelling and shouting at supporters of Aisha Chughtai when they took the stage during the endorsing convention.
Chughtai says that she and more than a dozen of her supporters were assaulted when Warsame supporters charged the stage.
Police say that no arrests have been made, but two people were injured with one going to the hospital for treatment.
Due to the chaos, the Convention Chairman had to postpone the nomination process. Meaning that the city’s 10th Ward does not have a candidate for the city council.
Warsame has fought against the idea that his supporters were the aggressor by saying that his campaign manager was punched in the head.
The Minnesota DFL is a part of the National Democratic Party.
The chairman did not say when the nomination convention will be rescheduled.
