A Florida woman is sitting in jail after she threw a hot pizza on a restaurant worker, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
61-year-old Leslie Vermilio was charged with battery after assaulting an employee at I Love New York Pizza in Deltona on Wednesday night.
The victim had reportedly finished boxing up the pizza and gave it to Vermillo. When Vermillo was unsatisfied with her order, she became angry and tossed the pizza at the employee.
“I would never treat my customers that way. I make things right,” owner Giuseppina Frigolino said.
According to NEWS6, Vermilio and her son immediately left the restaurant, so the victim followed them out and took down the license plate information from Vermilio’s vehicle.
When VCSO deputies went to Vermillo’s house, she claims her son threw the pizza and that the manager was rude.
“She says, ‘Ma’am, the small pizza doesn’t have the three toppings. It’s just a bianca.’ I said, ‘It was a human mistake. I’m really, really sorry, I will fix it,'” Frigolino said.
After the security camera told a different tale, the woman was arrested.
For the owner of the pizzeria, he wishes the incident never happened.
“We’ve been here 13 years with my kids,” Frigolino said. “We love people. We love making people happy with food. That’s it.”
