A doctor in Australia who complained publicly after she was “wedged” between two obese people has since been compensated by the airline for her troubles.
Dr. Sydney Watson took to Twitter to air her grievances after an American Airlines flight left her feeling squashed and uncomfortable.
“I am currently – literally – WEDGED between two OBESE people on my flight. This is absolutely NOT acceptable or okay. If fat people want to be fat, fine,” she tweeted, “But it is something else entirely when I’m stuck between you, with your arm rolls on my body, for 3 hours.”
Dr. Watson then added that heavier people should have to pay more.
“Buy two seats or don’t fly,” she added.
According to the Daily Star, American Airlines apologized for the inconvenience.
“Our passengers come in all different sizes and shapes”, they wrote, adding that they were “sorry you were uncomfortable on your flight.”
The medical professional was given $150 in compensation for her troubles.
The company added that in the future, she would be able to move if there were other seats available.
“Flight attendants were not able to make changes to the seating arrangement,” AA wrote. “I’m sure you know, in the future, you are always welcome to discuss the matter with our flight attendants. If we have other available seats, you’ll be allowed to move so that you can better enjoy your flight.”
