CLEVELAND, Ohio – Canton native Brian Warner, known to millions as singer Marilyn Manson, has been accused of abuse by multiple women, including actress and former fiancé Evan Rachel Wood.
Wood first publicly revealed she was a survivor of rape and domestic abuse in a 2016 Rolling Stone article. She did not name the person who abused her at the time. Wood has spent the past several years working as an activist to help victims of domestic violence.
However, Wood confirmed Manson as her alleged abuser in an Instagram post on Monday morning.
“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
Wood and Mason began dating in 2007. She was 19. He was 38.
In 2018, Wood testified via statement before the House Judiciary Subcommittee in support of the Sexual Assault Survivors Bill of Rights. At the time, Woods alleged “Toxic mental, physical and sexual abuse,” “threats against my life,” gaslighting, brainwashing and rape at the hands of a then-unnamed person.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, a police report was issued against Manson for alleged sex crimes that took place in 2011. Manson denied any wrongdoing through his attorney. Manson’s team also issued a statement in 2020 denying any allegations by Wood.
“Unfortunately, we live in a time where people believe what they read on the Internet, and feel free to say what they want with no actual evidence,” the statement said. “The effects can be catastrophic and promoting non fact-based information is wholly irresponsible.”
However, Wood’s Instagram post on Monday comes in solidarity with other women who are accusing Manson of abuse. The allegations were also detailed by those women via Instagram:
