Two private buses have been detained for doing rash driving in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore after a video of them went viral on social media. Both the drivers were suspended and their licenses have been taken.
The video showcased buses racing with each other on the Coimbatore-Pollachi highway. The video of both the buses were taken by motorists.
Apart from rash driving on the highway, the bus drivers appeared to have taken the risk. In the video, buses were noticed crossing the adjacent lanes and driving in the wrong side. The bus drivers put several lives in danger by doing rash driving.
A district official from Pollachi, Gayatri Krishnan also reacted badly to this video.
“Construction work is on in this stretch of the road and we have warned the bus owners that they will lose their permit if rash driving continues. We had seized licences of three drivers earlier for the same offence,” she said.
A meeting of all the bus owners will be held soon.
In the past few months, strict action against traffic defaulters has decreased road accidents. Only 12 accidents took place in February to five in March to only one in April.
“We are exploring possibilities to increase the timing so that there is no incentive for buses to drive in such unsafe manner,” Ms Krishnan stated.
