A Mary E. Bryant Elementary school bus carrying 27 students veered off the road and into a pond as it was approaching a bus stop. While many of the children were able to make their way to safety, fifth grader Nicholas Sierra was able to help a kindergartener to safety after part of the bus was submerged. The safety patroller went back onto the bus helping a first grader and a second grader back to safety. While it’s unclear why the bus driver veered of the road, one of the students said that he dear the driver say that the breaks went out. The Hillsborough Sheriff’s deputies and school officials are investigating and the bus driver has been suspended with pay.
