Barcelona (ONA) – The tributes to the victims of Thursday’s terror attack in Barcelona continue to pour in from sporting figures with a Spanish swimmer holding his own minute of silence today
whilst his competitors swam, the Spanish Marca newspaper said.
It is one of the more striking images with Fernando Alvarez, a representative of the Cadiz Swimming Club in the World Masters, paying his own tribute after his requests to competition organizers fell on deaf ears.
The Spaniard asked that an official moment of silence take place, but was told that there simply was not enough time to fit it in before the competition started.
Alvarez then duly stood in silence to the side while his other competitors swam a test run of the 200 metre breaststroke, the Marca reported.
