Orangutan holds tourist “hostage” for fruit

A tourist walking through an Indonesian jungle was briefly detained by an orangutan that grabbed her hand and refused to let go.

A video recorded last month in Indonesia’s Bukit Lawang jungle shows the flustered woman trying to break the female orangutan’s grip on her hand without success.

The woman, whose boyfriend filmed the encounter, was detained by the primate for several minutes before a guide was able to draw the orangutan’s attention with some fruit.

“During our trip to Bukit Lawang jungle in Indonesia, a female Orangutan grabbed my girlfriend for 5 minutes and the guides didn’t know what to do,” the filmer wrote online.
