Kangaroo joins horses in 150m race

A horse race in Australia briefly took a bizarre turn when a kangaroo hopped onto the track and briefly claimed the lead position.

Video from the final race of the day at the track in Cessnock, New South Wales, shows the kangaroo hopping along the inside rail after wandering onto the course and briefly taking the lead from the racehorses.

The kangaroo’s racing career proved to be short-lived, as it spotted an opening in the line of horses and bounded off the track.

The horses and their riders seemed unfazed by the kangaroo’s cameo appearance and the race continued uninterrupted.

The marsupial’s surrender left the path open for a horse named Cunning As A Tiger to claim victory.
