The distraught father of three women who have accused Larry Nassar of sexual abuse charged at the disgraced U.S. Olympic Gymnastics doctor Friday morning, forcing deputies to tackle him to the ground.
Randall Margraves requested a moment alone with Nassar during the second day of his latest sentencing hearing in Eaton County. His daughters, Lauren and Madison Rae, had just finished giving their victim-impact statements when Margraves addressed the judge, the Lansing State Journal reported.
“I would ask you as part of this sentencing grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon,” he requested.
When Judge Janice Cunningham declined, Margraves rushed at the convicted serial sexual predator. He was blocked by Nassar’s attorney, Matthew Newburg, and restrained before deputies escorted him from the courtroom.
Cunningham warned those in the room against reacting in a similar manner moving forward, but noted that she understood the father’s struggle.
“If it is difficult for me to hear what his daughters have to say, I can’t imagine what it is like for a parent,” she said.
It’s the third criminal sentencing for the former Michigan State University Doctor, who has been accused of sexual abuse by 265 athletes and young women.
Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Rosemaire Aquilina sentenced Nassar last month to up to 175 years behind bars following an emotionally charged seven-day sentencing hearing.
More than 150 women, including Margraves third daughter, Morgan, addressed Nassar and detailed the years of abuse he put them through _ often under the guise of medical treatment.
In a plea agreement reached last year, Nassar pleaded guilty to ten sexual assault in both Ingham and Eaton counties. The latest sentencing hearing stems from charges that he molested three gymnasts at Lansing-area Twistars Gym, a gymnastics club run by 2012 Olympic coach John Geddert.
Nassar in December was separately sentenced to 60 years in federal prison on child pornography charges.
