Family’s retired police K-9 helps rescue two small children from burning home

Fierce flames ripped through a home in Seminole County, Florida, and the family’s German Shepherd is being hailed a hero today.

Authorities say Maxx, a retired police K-9, led firefighters to two small children that were trapped inside, as heavy smoke filled the Longwood home Monday night.

Neighbors told WFLA that the woman inside, Margo Feaser, was “incoherent” and overcome with smoke when they helped pull her through a window to safety.

The entire family is being treated for smoke inhalation and burns. Maxx was also treated for smoke inhalation and is now doing well, according to police.

Fire marshals say the preliminary investigation indicates the fire was accidental.

Mrs. Feaser is a 12-year veteran of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, who along with her husband both served in the US Military.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family members get back on their feet as they’re unable to return to their home– which was completely destroyed in the fire.
