YORK, Nebraska – It’s the feel-good gift of the Christmas season.
Deputies confiscated 60 pounds of marijuana Tuesday from an elderly couple, who told investigators the large stash was intended to be divided up and given away as Christmas presents, reports say.
A Toyota Tacoma driven by Patrick Jiron, 80, and Barbara Jiron, 83, of Clearlake Oaks, Calif., was pulled over by York County Sheriff’s deputies on Interstate 80 when it went over the center line without signaling, the York News-Times reports.
A distinct smell of raw marijuana was coming from the vehicle and after a K9 unit was brought in, boxes of pot were found inside the pickup topper.
The marijuana was valued at $336,000, officials tell the News-Times. The couple reportedly was headed to Vermont.
According to the Associated Press, Patrick Jiron was being held in York County jail on suspicion of felony drug charges. Barbara Jion was cited for a lesser charge.
