When Deputy Chief of Police Gary Woodruff bought a homeless gentleman breakfast he learned that the man had lost his home in a fire. So Deputy Woodruff asked the gentleman if there was anything that he needed and the man showed the officer his sneakers that looked more like flip-flops. The gentleman told Deputy Woodruff ‘It’s winter and it’s been really cold. I could really use a new pair of shoes. The problem is, I’m a size 17.’ Lawrence Police Department’s Reserve & Late Shift Officers couldn’t find shoes big enough so they reached out to the Indiana Pacers basketball team, who donated a pair that was made for former player Roy Hibbert.
