Two men’s SnapChat video got them in trouble with the law. Joseph Andrew Floyd Jr., 20, and Zachary Lloyd Brown, 21, face charges of harassing wildlife after they posted a Snapchat video that showed them pouring beer into a baby alligator’s mouth, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) report.
Photos of the incident started to surface on Facebook, after receivers of the SnapChat saved the incident on their phones, WYFF reports.
SCDNR officials said the men admitted to officers that they picked up the gator as they saw it walking along a public dirt road.
In the video the men are seen tightly squeezing the alligator’s neck, pouring beer into it’s mouth, and also blowing smoke into its face. The men said they then released the alligator in a nearby pond, according to SCDNR.
“Alligators are protected under state law and even federal law where they are still listed as threatened solely due to their similarity of appearance to other endangered crocodilians worldwide,” SCDNR Alligator Program Coordinator Jay Butfiloski said.
SCDNR said the men could be fined up to $300.
